Website Draft

Hey guys! Can you tell me what you think of these pages? I've been looking at them so long I can't tell if they are good anymore. Please be as brutally honest as you can; otherwise I'll figure these are fine haha. In retrospect, I should have outlined them so you could see the boundaries.

I think the box for the twitter feed feels disjointed from the rest of the design in the first shot, I don't know if you even really need it, because it kind of takes away from the rest of the page. If you took that box out, and just placed the icons in a horizontal line, then you could make the design a bit less wide so that the bar behind the destination names don't stretch out so far.

I would also move the topics underneath the photo just a touch down; it seems a bit tight being that close. I can't really understand what the next three images are supposed to be. Sorry.

I love the imagery/bar background idea. Sweet!

It's funny you mention removing the twitter feed and not extending the destination names bar to the edge; those were the things Eric LIKED. It was even his idea to pull the bar behind the destinations all the way to the edge hahahaaa. Thanks for the input, though!! I never fully trust what he tells us in critique, so I'll definitely try taking those things out and see how it looks.

Just for clarification, my version of Percello only flies to six cities. So you click on a city and the next page (The Paris with "book a flight", "check-in", etc) shows up, and so on.

Hm…yeah, I think without that box it would just look so much cleaner—it could also be because it's on the left side of the page. Maybe if you moved it to the right? I dunno, I just feel like it's taking away all the attention from everything else on the page. Also, now that I realized that I could click on the images to enlarge them (lulz), I just noticed the "fly personal" thing on the right. It looks almost like an afterthought in how it's tucked into the corner—maybe if it were 20–25% bigger and placed closer to the woman on the right (maybe align with the "check out our menu?) it would work better.

Also, the leading on the body copy is pretty loose. It almost looks double-spaced as it is. And for the 12% off thing, you could just put "exclusions apply" and make it a link so that you don't have to put all the info right there in plain view. *mischievous*

A few other things:

Did Erik also tell you to use Univers? and 50% grey for the text? I keep hearing him say that stuff to EVERYONE. At least the grey part. Anyway, I think if you're using it for those headers/text, you should probably use it for the destination names or vice versa (not italics), because there are a lot of different type styles going on right now, and pulling it together a bit more would make it more cohesive.

In the Paris examples, I think the light helvetica neue might get lost on top of the grey when it prints (I could be wrong, though.) Also, if you made the image 2/3 of the page, it would give a nicer balance and give the text box more margin. If you don't end up masking the type, I think the text box would look better as an opacity of that dark purple color rather than grey.

I think you might as well just run with Helvetica, because helvetica and univers (or if that's not it, whatever other typeface you used) are so similar that they kinda clash…it might also just be the fact that the home page was the only place that you used the all caps dynamic…I just feel like it doesn't fit with the rest of the design.

There are a lot of really nice things going on though, I'm just trying to give you some things to look at because I'm having the same problems and Erik is awful at giving critiques because he's so non-specific and ambiguous. I need to post mine soon. Hah.

Thank you so much for such specific feedback!! SO HELPFUL. He gives vague opinions about our projects and when he gives specific advice, I don't like it (design-wise). All his advice follows his design ideals.

And yours looks great, I don't know what you're talking about "having the same problems" hahaha. I feel like I'm just floundering around with this part of the project because I've never done a website before! I just want to re-do the whole thing from scratch, but I don't think I have enough time for that. :C

Oh and about the Univers gray; I've been using gray for all my projects ever (kinda sad) but he has certainly been pushing it. I don't think I'm using Univers? I should probs know that. I'm pretty sure it's Helvetica Neue and Apple Symbols. I'm not even sure if that is a font I'm allowed to use for shit, but I don't even care.

lol, not sad! I think it just needs a bit more contrast. But it's going to print a bit darker anyway; I would just print it out on a regular printer to see how the colors look before you do the final print. :)
